August 2024 Business of the Month
Steve's Custom Canvas & Upholstery
The Webster Chamber of Commerce would like to recognize Steve's Custom Canvas as the Business of the Month. We are thrilled to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and community spirit of this business.
Steve's Custom Canvas, located at 765-B County Line Road in Ontario, NY, has been a cornerstone in our community since its establishment in May of 1991. Founded by Steven Palis, this business started with humble beginnings at Sutters Marine on Empire Blvd in a 20-foot trailer with a rain shed for pulling boats into for work. From these modest origins, Steve's Custom Canvas has grown into a trusted name in canvas work and upholstery waterproofing and repairs for marine, auto, and awning applications.
The primary function of Steve's Custom Canvas is to provide top-quality canvas work and upholstery services, ensuring that boats, cars, and awnings are protected and looking their best. Their mission is to deliver exceptional craftsmanship and reliable service, a commitment that has earned them a loyal customer base over the years.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Steve's Custom Canvas is the variety and uniqueness of the projects they undertake. No two days or projects are the same, which keeps the work engaging and allows for continuous learning and innovation. This dynamic environment is a testament to the creativity and adaptability of Steve and his team.
Steve's Custom Canvas has seen growth and evolution since its inception. At its peak, the business has employed up to four individuals, each contributing their skills and passion to the company's success. Despite the challenges and changes over the years, the business has remained steadfast, providing high-quality services to its clients.
Beyond their business operations, Steve's Custom Canvas is deeply committed to the community. They actively participate in community organizations such as the Boy Scouts and the Irondequoit Fish & Game Club. Their involvement and contributions help strengthen the community fabric, demonstrating that their commitment extends far beyond business.
I'd like to share a humorous yet inspiring story that underscores the adventurous spirit of Steve Palis. Back in May 1991, Steve needed canvas for his boat. Rather than simply purchasing what he needed, he decided to buy the business. At that time, Steve had never used a sewing machine in his life. He hired the previous owner to teach him the art of sewing and tailoring canvas. This story highlights Steve's fearless approach to business and life, his willingness to dive into the unknown, and his dedication to mastering new skills.
Steve's Custom Canvas embodies the spirit of innovation, community engagement, and unwavering commitment to quality. It is a business built on passion, hard work, and the desire to serve the community. We are proud to honor Steve's Custom Canvas as our Business of the Month. Congratulations to Steve Palis and his team on their well-deserved recognition. We look forward to many more years of exceptional service and community involvement from Steve's Custom Canvas.
