Webster Community Chest – Peeps in a Different Way
After six months of planning and caught in the pandemic, like many of you we had to find another way to operate. The Greater Rochester Peep Show Charity Fundraiser was postponed from March to May, hoping for the best but it was not to be. We put together a virtual program so that those who made displays would be able to show off their work. We asked the artists to send photographs or a video and they surpassed our expectations. Some showed all aspects of the work, many videos showed how the work was made, and a surprising number had a script in which the display was the setting for a Peep adventure.
“The Peep Show” for Beyond Cuts Salon, by Robin Whittaker. Winner: Best Dance Peep
If you missed the show on May 9th and 10th, you can still enjoy the displays at http://www.rochesterpeepshow.org. We arranged the show into four “rooms” on our website, each sponsored by a major business donor. Three of these are Chamber members and we would like to thank Maplewood Nursing Home, Rich Marlin Financial Advisor, and Heritage Christian Services for their sponsorships. The show is largely an adult venture, and the wit and whimsy of these displays were meant for an adult audience, though enjoyable for kids as well, especially the displays made by children. Chamber members Henderson Ford, Pet Supplies+ (formerly Pet$avers), Bene-Care, and Soho Imaging also contributed to sponsor special areas.
"Starry Starry Night" by Susan Schmitt. Grand Prize - Adult PEEPles Choice. Winner: The Maplewood Nursing Home Award for Best Day Out PEEP.
Last year, we had over 2,100 visitors during the 12-hour show. This year we had 4,576 visits to the website during the weekend, and over 9,000 during the month. Many of these were family members sharing a screen, so actual visitors were much more. Though most were local, others were from all over the country, and some even international. Our local visitors saw the familiar names of our sponsors splashed all over the website, including award sponsors Hegedorns, Gerard P. Smith Insurance Agency, Chamberlain Septic Service, Norwex (Cherie Wood), Webster Pediatric Dentistry, and Gail Boorum/Mary Kay. We raised money by selling raffle tickets for the Kittleberger Florist & Gifts basket and other donations. We would also like to thank The Goodie Shoppe, Brimont Bistro, Hegedorns, and Yesterdays' Muse Books for donating prizes given to top displays.
"Peep City Hospital" by Girl Scout Troop 63184. Second Place - Youth PEEPles Choice.
We were able to give a share of the proceeds to nine other participating charities, including several in Webster—the Webster Museum, Webster Grange, Heritage Christian Services, and Never Say Never Stables. If you would like to join our Peep Show Committee for next year’s show (March 20 and 21, 2021) or if you want to be a sponsor or enter your own display, please write to webcommchest@gmail.com. This is a rewarding opportunity to help the needy in our community. For more information on the Community Chest, visit our website at http://www.webcommchest.org.
