185 Years	United Methodist Church of Webster Celebrates 185 Years The United Methodist Church of Webster celebrates a very long and proud history of 185 years of worship and mission. The core mission of this church has been to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to transform the world. The current church located at 169 East Main Street, Webster is a product of 2 neighbor congregations that have each gone through several name changes and site relocations. The First Methodist Episcopal Church was incorporated in 1832 with eight members. In 1859 the name changed to Webster Methodist Episcopal Church at 81 West Main Street, then in 1966 changed to Webster Methodist Church and in 1969 it changed to First United Methodist Church. In 1861, the Zion Church of the Evangelical Association was housed in a 1 room sanctuary on Salt Road relocating in 1881 to a newly constructed church on Ridge Road, east of the village center. The present site of the church began in 1907, when the Zion Church of the Evangelical Association purchased the property at 169 E Main Street. More mergers in 1946 and 1968 led to the final merger in 1972 when they formed the current church, The United Methodist Church of Webster. Throughout their history, the community has received a loving spirit, strong spiritual guidance, and reliance on Bible teaching provided by the church. The congregations have lived out their Christian faith with strong community outreach and dedication to helping others locally, nationally and globally. Those include helping refugees begin new lives here in Webster, delivering meals to the sick and elderly, and supporting many other mission programs. Current outreach supports groups such as Al-anon, Nar-Anon, a new Parkinson’s group, YMCA before school care and Embracing Options, a pro-life pregnancy center. Additionally, they help fill a critical need for transportation for Webster adults when they can’t drive themselves to doctor, dental, legal and SSI appointments. New this summer, they partner with Wesley United Methodist Church in Rochester to provide afternoon basketball practice and games for teens and they are hosting classes for exchange students from Spain. 80 Years	Kuhn & Pedulla Agency - Celebrates 80 years Kuhn & Pedulla Insurance Agency roots date back to 1937. The agency evolved from two local family-owned and run insurance agencies: The Roman A. Kuhn Agency and the Pedulla Agency, who merged their operations in 1989 to become the current agency. Originally founded in 1937 by Roman and wife Dorothy Kuhn, the Kuhn Agency continued their predominant local presence under the leadership of Dorothy and son Donald Kuhn upon Roman’s death in 1955. Roman served as Chamber President from 1948-1950. The Pedulla Agency, founded in the early ‘50s by James Pedulla, also a long-time Webster resident, turned over leadership of that agency to daughters Marlene Remein and Kathleen Pedulla when Jim retired in 1980. The independent agency, at 859 Ridge Road in Webster, continues to serve the insurance needs of individuals, families, and businesses in the greater Rochester and Western New York area. In an effort to stay current and contribute back to the insurance industry, the agency has also been an active member of the Independent Insurance Agents’ Association for many years, with both Marlene and Kathleen having served as board members and past-presidents of the local chapter of the Association. Today, Kuhn & Pedulla has begun the transition into the “next generation”, by adding daughter/niece Tessa Remein. 70 Years	The Maplewood - 70 Years ago Exceptional personal care has been a family tradition for three generations, and it's still their philosophy today. Simply put, they begin every day with a clear vision to treat and provide care for your loved ones as you would at home. Everything Maplewood does flows from that philosophy. The Maplewood was founded by Thomas and Johanna Chambery, who opened the facility in 1947 on Lake Avenue in the City of Rochester. In 1960, James and Judith Chambery took over the operation, serving as Administrator and Director of Nursing Services. To meet growing demands, they moved to their Webster location in 1976. They picked Webster because of the strong community feeling here. Run today by Greg Chambery, the grandson of the founders, The Maplewood still reflects the Chambery Family commitment to providing comfortable accommodations, attentive service and affordable quality care. A lot has changed since the early days on Lake Avenue, but the desire to provide superior service and their commitment to distinctive personal care remains the same. 65 Years	Anthony Funeral Chapels – started 65 Years ago Anthony Funeral Chapel, Inc. started in November 1952 fulfilling a childhood dream of Ben Anthony who was first introduced to the business on trips to Schenectady to visit an aunt who along with her husband ran a funeral home. In 1941, after graduating from Brighton High School he entered Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse. World War II slowed that process down but after serving in the South Pacific he completed his schooling and did his apprenticeship and residency at Hedges Memorial Chapel in Rochester. During the next several years, while also working in the father’s Sand and Gravel Business as a truck driver, he acquired land on Monroe Ave. in Brighton to build his dream. His brother was licensed and joined Ben in the business soon after opening its doors. This was the only funeral home in Brighton and the challenge was to attract families who for generations went to Hedges Memorial and other downtown funeral homes. The business grew as the community grew and in 1984 the business was sold to the next generation and the brother’s two eldest sons Mark and Scott took over. A short time later they purchased the Smith & Lotze Funeral Home in the village of Webster. That business was started in the late 1800’s as the Harris & Nagle Funeral Home and Cabinet Makers. Then in the 1920’s, Earl Smith and Carl Lotze took over the business and changed the name to Smith & Lotze Funeral Home and Furniture Store. After WWII, John (Jack) Elliott, Frank Klick and Bruce O’Dell became the owners. In addition to the funeral home and furniture store they also ran an ambulance service for some years. Many families have been served in Brighton, Pittsford and Rochester over the last 65 years and many families in Webster have been served by that funeral home for over one hundred years. Anthony Funeral Chapels is grateful to have to opportunity to serve those communities.
60 Years	Webster Kiwanis Club is celebrating 60 Years In late 1956 and early 1957, a group of members from the Lakeshore Kiwanis Club and other residents of Webster decided to form a new club, dedicated to deliver to Webster the principles and precepts of Kiwanis International. The Kiwanis Club of Webster was chartered on May 14th 1957. Their motto is "Serving the Children of the World". Their first meeting was held with 18 members and since Stan Nowrocki, the owner of Hedge's Restaurant, was one of the organizers, the first meetings were held at Hedge's Nine Mile Point. Their Charter night was held on August 3, 1957 and they immediately began community involvement by holding fund raising events with the proceeds being given to aid the Webster community. They set up a loan fund for college students, giving eligible students money with no strings attached. After graduation, students could, if they desired, repay the "loan" so future students could be assisted. A modest scholarship award was given to Webster High School graduates based on community service rather than athletics or academics. Over the years the club has performed thousands of hours of service and donated thousands of dollars to assist children and their families. They proudly sponsor Key Clubs at the Webster High schools, a Builders Club at Spry, and K-Kids at State Road and Schlegel Road Elementary Schools. They charter Boy Scout Troop 108, Cub Scout Pack 108, and support four local Girl Scout troops. They recently restarted a Venture Scouting Crew for developmentally and intellectually impaired adults. The club has a Field House which is used throughout the year by scouting groups and is also available, free of charge, to other non-profit groups in Webster. The Webster Lions Club utilizes the field house in July for Camp Smile. Over the years several members have gone on to serve Kiwanis at the regional, New York state and international level. 55 Years	Gordon Beh Excavating – 55 Years In 1962, Gordon Beh was a dairy farmer who purchased a backhoe to do some needed drainage work around his dairy farm. Little did he know that his great work would capture the attention of his neighbors. By 1964, other farmers, friends and builders were asking him to do drainage work, install septic systems and install water services on their properties. It didn't take long for it to become clear that Gordon's true calling was not milk, but mud. He left the dairy business to concentrate exclusively on excavation work and in 1970, he incorporated and became Gordon Beh Excavating Contractors, Inc. Installing septic systems was already a part of the business, so when he had the opportunity to purchase Chamberlain Septic Tank Service in 1972, it was the perfect complement and meant he could service the septic and sewer systems he installed. The business is a family affair. Sons, Dean and David, joined their dad in the 1970s, and when Gordon retired in 1990, they carried on the longstanding tradition of providing unsurpassed customer service. Today, the business uses state-of-the-art technology for the industry including power snaking equipment, video cameras and confined space equipment, along with an expanded fleet of large and small capacity septic tank trucks. Gordon Beh Excavating maintains the latest equipment including backhoes, bulldozers and dump trucks that are updated regularly. They have the knowledge and expertise to get the job done. Dean and David hold numerous industry certifications and more than half of their staff have been with the company for more than 20 years. Congratulations on their 55 years in business.

45 Years	Bay View Family YMCA – established in 1972 The Bay View YMCA takes great pleasure in serving the Webster community since 1972. Their 45,000-square foot building and 35 acres of land make up an amazing facility. The YMCA focuses on enhancing the Healthy Lifestyles, Youth Development and Social Responsibility of the people in this community. They are a not for profit organization that, through fundraising, allows them to provide financial assistance to all in need who would like to have a YMCA experience. The programs and services are constantly changing to meet the needs of the community with 12,000 members ages 6 weeks to over 100 years old! The YMCA of Greater Rochester is the largest provider of Child Care in Monroe County and the Bay View Y has 15 sites with before and after school child care serving four different school districts and over 750 children a day. The beautiful day camp with access to Irondequoit Bay offers sailing, waterskiing, kayaking and canoeing serving 400 to 500 children a day in the summer. On the other end of the diversity scale, one quarter of their membership is over the age of 60. 45 Years	Passero Associates – in business for 45 Years Forty-five years ago, on April 15, 1972, Gary W. Passero founded Passero Associates in Rochester as an engineering firm. The firm began with two employees in a small office on Lake Avenue. Under Gary’s leadership, Passero Associates has grown to over 90 engineers, architects, planners, surveyors, and support personnel, with seven offices in New York, Ohio and Florida, serving clients in the Northeast, Southeast, and Midwestern United States. Now a full-service, multi-disciplinary engineering and architectural firm, Passero provides planning, engineering, architectural design, sustainability, surveying, program management, construction administration and design/build services to commercial and general aviation airports, municipalities, institutions, manufacturers, commercial developers, residential developers, and faith-based institutions. 45 Years	DTN Security - celebrates 45 Years Donald T. Noga and his company, DTN Security, have been protecting the people and businesses of Monroe County for forty-five years. Providing security and fire alarm systems with 24 hour emergency response, they have helped save people in our community from theft, injury, fear, and even death. In that time, DTN Security has serviced hundreds of clients, large and small, in Webster, Rochester and the surrounding areas. Some as large as Xerox and some as small as the Webster Chamber offices. Not once, in 45 years, has the firm received a single complaint from any of their clients or from the State or local Police. Don is licensed by the state of NY and the city of Rochester; he holds a master electrician’s license and uses the latest technology products and training from Honeywell Security Company. 40 Years	Webster Wine & Spirits – in business for 40 Years In July 1977, John Gonzales and his wife opened Webster Wine and Spirits next to Hegedorns in a location that was previously run by the Wilson family who moved across the street to a much larger location. The store operated with two part time employees and while John and Sheri continued their full time management responsibilities at Hegedorns Supermarket. They covered opening and closing the store and most of the 72 hours they were open. In those days, the store was not allowed to be open on Sundays. With a lot of work, some good decisions, great managers, great staff, and valued customers, forty years later the store is still here and as strong as ever. A critical development happened about 12 years ago, when Paul Bialobok began to manage the store, using his many talents to move the business effectively into the future. When Paul was deployed to the Middle East by the Army Reserves, Kevin Cook began to manage the store until Paul returned. However, Kevin proved so knowledgeable and valuable during his short term that it was agreed by all to keep both managers. Since then, the store has continued to grow and prosper and has one of the highest sales per square foot of retail space in the Monroe County. Paul and Kevin are very knowledgeable in wines and spirits so be sure to stop by to talk with them. John has already begun the generational transition and is very thankful to have his two sons involved with the business. Son Jon now oversees the financial management of the store and Michael does administrative work and works in the store weekly. We are sure to see Webster Wine and Spirits celebrating many more milestone anniversaries! Congratulations on your 40 years of success.
40 Years	CDS Monarch – in business for 40 years CDS Monarch, a CDS Life Transitions company, began with a group of parents whose goal was to ensure quality services would always be available for their children, no matter their ages. These parents joined together in 1977 to form Continuing Developmental Services, Inc. (CDS), a not-for-profit, private organization, now known as CDS Monarch. They opened their first community residence in August of 1978. Today, CDS Monarch, headquartered on Hard Road in Webster fulfills transitional and employment needs of more than 1,700 people with developmental disabilities and their families. CDS Monarch, along with sister companies Unistel Industries, CDS Housing, Warrior Salute Veteran Services, and the CDS Wolf Foundation, under the umbrella of CDS Life Transitions, continue in their 40^th year to provide exceptional holistic and innovative support for the people they serve. 35 Years	Bees and Bugs Be-Gone – celebrates 35 years When Jon Olderstein started Bees and Bugs Be-Gone it was originally named Bees Be-gone but was soon named Bees and Bugs Be-gone. When the business started in 1982, John would wait for a customer to call, a call would come in, then he immediately went off to that customer. From the very beginning, Jon’s parents were there to help. His mom is a retired Webster School teacher and his dad retired as a Rochester Telephone Pioneer. Jon had a pager. Jon’s dad would page him and he would call in from a local payphone to get the message that he had another bee call. A few years later, Jon bought one of those huge cell phones, the size of a brick, which was much easier, but carrying it was not. It wasn’t long after that and Jon would be on calls all day long. One day, after checking in with his mom, she said: “It’s been very busy here Jon”. Getting back to the office, his parents said he had over 100 calls in a single day. Jon and his parents haven’t forgotten that day and they still chuckle about how many calls they received. Years later, Jon married his wife Karen in 2004 and she began to answer and schedule calls for the company. Today, Karen works for an animal hospital, because her interest is dogs and not bugs. Jon has grown from one truck to three trucks on the road taking calls and helping homeowners and businesses take care of the bees and the bugs! 30 Years	Independent Planning Group – Celebrates 30 years In 1981, John Forken turned from teaching high school students about business and economics to applying his knowledge to help adults achieve their financial goals. To his master’s degree, he added financial planning training through a 2.5-year program sponsored by what was then CIGNA Financial Services Corporation. John and his wife, Chris, established The Independent Group of Companies in 1987. Today John is a Registered Representative of FSC Securities Corporation and a Licensed Insurance Agent. The Independent Group of Companies is made up of Independent Planning Group, Inc., an Investment Advisor registered with the State of New York; Independent Planners Action Group, Inc., a service provider to Registered Representatives and Licensed Insurance Agents; and Independent Compensation Consults, Inc., an employee benefits consultant and service provider for fiduciaries. Over their 30-year history, John has developed relationships with professionals such as CPA’s, attorney’s and actuaries, across the state. His clients, which are also spread across the state, now include the second generation of families. John and Chris are thrilled that all 3 of their children and all 4 grandchildren are here in the area.
